How important is love for mankind?
Love is an emotion of strong affection and personal attachment. A man could spend his whole life writing about love; love is so extensive and sometimes it's hard to understand.
The concept of love arouses many different associations for the human being and most of the associations are positively related. But love can also bring pain, unrequited love can sometimes be lifelong.
We all want to be noticed, appreciated and get confirmation. Love and relationships has always been highlighted by scientists, philosophers and writers in various fields. They are united on that man has a desire to establish and maintain close relationships and that we all have a wish to be loved. Such issiues have been dealt with in art and music through the ages.
Love can be aimed to abstract things, general concrete things or specific things as with humans or pets.
It has been suggested that the physical and mental closeness is healing, sometimes even lifesaving. Something that fascinated me and made me feel deeply moved was when I read about a little monkey who had lost his faith in life. When the little monkey had been abandoned by his mother, he lost his zest for life and nearly died of grief. But when he met a white dove, his outlook on life changed. The monkey was no longer lethargic and began to recover. He was so happy and delighted. Their relationship changed the little monkey's life ...
The love of the dove didn't only change the monkeys life - the love to the bird saved the little creature. Similarly, we have in recent years seen the importance of love when babies are devolped. Sue Gerhardt, a researcher, has demonstrated how a baby's brain develops and is shaped depending on the social interaction between the infant and its caregiver. Good interaction leads to the development of the social brain (prefrontal cortex), which in turn helps the child to develop emotionally. However is the interaction flawed, it may result in the individual later in life having problems with depression, personality disorders or substance abuse.
If we choose  to see the importance of love and how we express it from a gender perspective, we see that a woman is often associated with feeling and a man with reason. The strict distinction between how the two sexes are suppost to handle and express their feelings is be one of the foundations of the male dominance.
Based on these gender roles we can currently see that many men restrain their feelings and decide to show their woman feelings "gradually" with time in the beleif that their woman should  not get tired as easily. Many men believe that they must control their emotions and that they should  never show their feelings too much when it comes to a love relationship. But is it really true that women get tired? I personally believe that this sparing love can lead to conflicts in a relationship. As soon as you do not feel appreciated or confirmed, you start to search constantly for answers. There are so many rules about how to behave and how to show love without being perceived as persistent or exaggerated. Love is in many ways very complicated.
Would I be able to live without love? The answer is no, for me, my family and friends means everythung for me. But there are those who can live without love, how they succeed I do not know... Most people get depressed and sad when they not feel loved.
What I have found is that there are many different aspects of what love is. Love has different meaning to us humans but for many people it is vital. Personally, I would not be able to live without love. For me, love is everything and if I'm not surrounded by people who like and love me, I can not see any point to living. I have great fear of being left alone and I can see how it has affected me in  my earlier relationships. The thought of being alone is very scary to me. And I am certainly not alone in experiencing such feelings.
